Extreme Makeover -
Home Edition Visits Broadway, NC
March 7, 2009
OK, so our chapter president gets a call from the Extreme Makeover Home Edition (EMHE) that there is going to be a veterans parade in Broadway NC as part of the work they are about to undertake there and that he would like to invite Rolling Thunder.
And so you know we always are up for a parade. Oh yea, John gets this call on Friday the 6th. So the information goes out and Saturday morning 18 bikes are in the VFW 670 parking lot ready to ride to Broadway.
This was our destination, the Veterans' Memorial in Broadway. It is a very nice memorial, definitely worth a visit if you are out on a weekend ride.
Everyone we met were really great. Shortly after arriving, Cindy from the pizza place down the street stopped by to tell us we would all get a 10% discount if we wanted something to eat or drink. Thanks!
The folks from Extreme Makeover were pretty cool also. It was at this point however, we learned that there really wasn't going to be a parade as we know it. Basically, this was the filming of the beginning of the show, when Ty gives a little background on the week's project.
By the time we were ready to start, we had a pretty decent crowd. Members from several other Rolling Thunder chapters showed up along with a few other groups.
Of course, everyone was excited to see Ty Pennington. He seemed like a pretty good dude, was friendly to everyone and pretty down to earth.
Jerry Moser was the Rolling Thunder representative on the flag detail.
All in all, it was a good event although not what we expected when the day began. We were a part of making a TV show, and we soon found out the reason everything looks perfect on TV is that they do things over and over until they are perfect. This edition of Extreme Makeover, Home Edition will air sometime in May.

Here are some additional pictures that Ken Pervine sent to me of this event. Thanks Ken!!Thanks to everyone who came out to participate, the people of Broadway, and the team from EMHE for inviting us to be a part of the show.
