Wreaths Across America

Thank you to everyone that came out on December 15, 2018 to honor our Veterans at the Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery. Despite the weather, it turned out to be an awesome event and the rain was nice enough to hold off until we were finished. The community laid 4,398 wreaths on the graves and to my knowledge, this is the largest number of wreaths laid. However there is approximately 9,000 graves at the cemetery and that number will increase even more by December 2019.

Please start spreading the word and letting your family, friends, and employers that it is never too early to start donating and sponsoring wreaths for next year.  Mark your calendars for next year's ceremony which will be on December 14 2019. Hopefully next year will be the year that every grave is honored with a wreath.

If you would like to serve on the planning committee to help plan next year's events, feel free to use the Contact US Link and we can put you in touch with the committee.

Also don't forget to mark the date for Wreath Pick Up on January 26, 2019. We will start around 9:00 am and gather up the 4,000 + wreaths from the cemetery..

In 1992, Worcester Wreath Company of Harrington, Maine found themselves with an excess of wreaths nearing the end of the holiday season. From this first act, the non-profit Wreaths Across America, whose mission is to REMEMBER, HONOR and TEACH, was born in 2007 with the hopes of one day every veteran’s resting place will have a wreath placed by it.

On December 15, 2018, Wreaths Across America and the national network of volunteers laid over 1.8 MILLION memorial wreaths at over 1,640 locations in the United States and beyond. This was accomplished with the help of fundraising groups, corporate contributions, donations of trucking and shipping, and thousands of helping hands.
